Is it better for me to buy a guitar without a pick guard? Does the pick guard absorb
sound?

Answer:
If the guitar has a normal Martin, Guild, Taylor, etc. sized pick guard, it will have no
noticeable effect
on the sound. The pick guard would have to be very large covering both sides of the
sound hole and maybe more before noticeable dampening of sound would occur.
