Question:

I have gold plated tuners on my guitar that are tarnished. What can I use to safely polish these so the plating won't come off?

Answer:

I would try a product that we like very much in our shop called Virtuoso Cleaner. This stuff is high as a cats back and works great. I know the guy who has it bottled and he uses it on very expensive antique guitars. That is how we discovered it. Try this on a very soft cloth and it may work the best. Any other type of cleaners will almost definitely rub the gold off.
